Commander, NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance Force

Major General Phillip Stewart is the Commander for the NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance Force, stationed at the Italian Air Force Base Sigonella. Major General Stewart was commissioned in 1992 and has commanded at multiple levels in the US Air Force, including twice in combat, first as Commander of the 362nd Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron at Balad Air Base, Iraq, and most recently as Commanding General of NATO Train Advise Assist Command-Air and 438th Air Expeditionary Wing Commander in Kabul, Afghanistan. He also served as the Wing Commander of the US Air Force’s 9th Reconnaissance Wing. Major General Stewart has served as an instructor and evaluator pilot in multiple aircraft and holds the rating of command pilot.
