Major Giesenfeld joined the German Armed Forces in October 2007, serving first in the army and since 2009 in the air force. He completed his officers training course in 2011.

Following this he was transferred to the Tactical Air Command and Control Squadron (TACCS) 21 in Erndtebrück, where he acquired his Aircraft Control Licence in 2013. Since then, he has served as an Aircraft Controller (AC) in the Control and Reporting Center (CRC) “LONESHIP”, acquiring Limited Combat Ready (LCR) status. He was also fulfilling tasks as an instructor and later as an examiner in the relevant fields. Major Giesenfeld participated in several international exchange programs in Denmark and Switzerland as well as courses and training, e.g. the Tactical Leadership Program (TLP) in Albacete.

Likewise, he was part of the “Maritime Pool” in Erndtebrück for several years, which consists of 10 AC (5x Navy and 5x Airforce), and allowed him to experience his first and so far, only deployment in 2018. Here he supported the “Carrier Strike Group 8” on board the frigate “HESSEN” for about 3 ½ months. He also supported exercises on the frigate “SACHSEN”, most recently in 2021. Other notable qualifications he has are the Weapons Control Licence SAM and the Battle Management Licence.
